Select Board Names Melia to Board of Health

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of August 4, 2026

Middleton Select Board appoints Annie Melia to Board of Health after ambulance crash forces stopgap fleet deal. Melia, a healthcare communications professional who chaired the Middleton Advancement Coalition, won a 4-1 vote over fellow applicants Tim Houghton and Laura Vlasic for the seat long held by George DeMeritt, term through June 30, 2029. The board separately authorized the town administrator to arrange a short-term ambulance lease from Specialty Vehicles after Ambulance 1 was totaled in a highway crash; a replacement is due in November, but Fire Chief LaCoste said remounting the salvaged box onto a new chassis "can't do that until 2028." The board also approved $5,281,619 in bills payable and $767,371 in payroll, and named Charles Costigan to the Rails to Trails Committee.
