Middleton Selectmen call a July 18 special town meeting over a stalled $300,000 trash article. Town counsel, working with the state Department of Revenue's Division of Local Services, found that warrant Articles 7 through 16 exceed the town's tax levy limit and need a three-fifths ballot vote. Selectman Tracy pressed the board over legal costs tied to the dispute, saying, "I hope you guys did not pay that bill... this is ridiculous," while another board member called Article 7 "our trash article" and said the town has no backup funding plan if it fails.
Separately, the board approved joint town-Conservation Commission management of the Tanglewood parcels at the request of Kate Pizarre, merged five sets of town-owned Lakeland District lots, stripped an outdated "for sale" tag from other town land, designated Juneteenth a paid town holiday, and reappointed Dan as road agent.
