Select Board Approves Memorial Hall Sale Terms
Board of Selectmen · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Middleton sets historic-preservation terms for Memorial Hall's sale and closes a $660,000 police station deal. The Select Board voted unanimously to approve a draft RFP for the 1.2-acre Memorial Hall property after member Rick pushed back on a scoring system that only gave "advantageous" credit for preserving the historic facade; Town Administrator Justin agreed to make preservation mandatory, citing advice that "it's easier to preserve" than rebuild and relitigate appearance disputes. New housing on the site is capped at six units, with proposals due November 4.
Separately, the board voted 3-0 by roll call, with one member recused, to sell the former police station at 65 North Main Street to Gleona Plumbing and Heating for $660,000 and return a $20,000 deposit; owner Michael Gleona said he plans to seek a special permit and eventually rebuild. The board also approved a $39,980 contract with the Horsley Witten Group to update the town's decade-expired open space plan, and appointed veterans Christopher Copson and Sean McPherson to the Patriotic Observances Committee after longtime member Scott Saulnier stepped aside for both.
