Building Committee Approves $586,840 in Payments
Other Committee · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Middleton Building Committee approves $586,840 as MassDOT sidewalk demand delays public safety occupancy. The panel voted 4-0 to approve a $413,167 construction payment and, unanimously, a $173,673 change order covering valves, door hardware and extended general conditions. A WT Rich site representative said the contractor is "disappointed in ourselves" after a walkway failed inspection for the third or fourth time, blamed on a miscalibrated measuring level.
Separately, MassDOT is requiring two sidewalk tilt-downs near the public safety apparatus apron be rebuilt in concrete instead of asphalt, the last item standing between the building and final occupancy. Project manager Brian told the committee the project remains on track for roughly $4 million in savings first projected at May's town meeting. A ribbon-cutting and open house is planned for September 19.
