Corridor panel eyes business-district zoning shift

Other Committee · Meeting of August 26, 2026

Middleton corridor panel finds over half of North Main Street buildings don't meet setback rule. The North Main Street Corridor Study Advisory Committee, chaired by Anthony DiGregorio, heard from the Contos family about decades of stalled redevelopment plans for 2 and 26-28 North Main Street, including a 2023 proposal shelved when construction financing rose above 8 percent from roughly 3 percent. The town planner reported 54 percent of corridor structures don't conform to the current 100-foot front setback, a figure that would fall to about 10 percent non-conforming under a 30-foot standard.

"Our board and committee has no authority to make changes to anything," DiGregorio told the family, noting recommendations go to the Planning Board. Only four of 35 property-owner surveys have been returned so far. Members set their next meeting for September 30.
