ZBA Approves Ferncroft Country Club Site Overhaul
Zoning Board · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Middleton ZBA unanimously approves Ferncroft Country Club entrance and safety overhaul. Chair Richard Benevento and the board pressed engineer Brent Cole of Granite Engineering to add mid-block crosswalks connecting new sidewalks to an overflow parking lot on Copper Mine Road, after Cole argued "mid-block crosswalks are extremely dangerous." Vice Chair Carolyn Damato-MacPherson countered the board was "only doing half of what is necessary... for safety." The approved findings confirm 181 paved and 95 gravel parking spaces and sight distance exceeding 300 feet at the redesigned Village Road entrance. The board also continued a special permit hearing for 184 Essex Street to October 22 after applicant Mark Gigliotti failed to appear, and unanimously adopted new rules adding a state-mandated consolidated permitting process for small clean energy infrastructure facilities like battery storage and solar.
