Middleton Rejects Bid to Cut Camera Funding

Town Meeting · Meeting of May 12, 2026

Middleton Town Meeting rejects bid to strip traffic camera funding, 98-47. Voters approved a $51,925,927 fiscal 2027 budget, $1,738,652 toward a $70 million Masconomet HVAC and roof project, and $2.2 million for Fuller Meadows School roof and HVAC work. The sharpest fight came over five proposed intersection cameras: resident Rachel Nemeth called the plan "too open-ended," while cybersecurity professional Jared Weissman cited an unpatched vulnerability in the camera system.

Select Board Chair Brian Cresta backed the cameras, describing his wife's crash at Route 114 and Essex Street, saying "she was struck by a woman that went right through the red light while utilizing her phone." Town Meeting also authorized the Select Board to dispose of three former municipal properties, including land near Memorial Hall, by a two-thirds card vote.
