MIDDLETON — May 4, 2026 — Middleton School Committee approves inter-town tuition waiver and warns voters on Fuller Meadow roof ballot. The committee voted unanimously Monday to adopt Tritown School Union recital language eliminating base-program tuition charges when students cross town lines for specialized special education services, while preserving cost recovery for add-on supports such as one-to-one aides. A seven-year financial analysis presented by Assistant Superintendent Matt showed Middleton netted $180,000 positive on inter-district tuition flows over the period, receiving $421,000 and paying out $241,000. Committee members and Superintendent Scott Morrison urged residents to understand that the Fuller Meadow roof and HVAC project — which carries a 47 percent Massachusetts School Building Authority reimbursement on eligible costs and involves borrowing authorization of up to $2.2 million — requires approval at both the May 12 annual town meeting under Article 22 and at a May 19 ballot debt-exclusion question, with a no vote on either measure ending the MSBA grant entirely and forcing the town to restart the application process.
